Before becoming a coach, Claudinho Sarmento spent twelve years as a professional footballer, from 2002 to 2014. He played for various clubs in Brazil and South Korea, gaining valuable insights into the physical and mental demands of high-performance sports – insights that would later shape his approach as a trainer. His career, however, was not without challenges: multiple knee injuries and several surgeries forced him to confront adversity early on. These experiences not only taught him resilience but also deepened his understanding of injury prevention and rehabilitation – knowledge that is now invaluable in his work with professional athletes.

After ending his playing career and earning his degree in 2016, Claudinho Sarmento decided to channel his passion for sports into a new direction. He founded a training center in his hometown of Maceió, where he continues to work with a diverse range of clients – from ambitious amateurs to professional athletes. Drawing on his own experience as a pro footballer, his focus from the outset has been on the individualized coaching of footballers. To further enhance his expertise and continuously refine his training philosophy, Sarmento has completed numerous advanced courses in athlete development.

His growing expertise eventually led him to Japan in 2018, where he was hired to train Cristiano da Silva, one of the top strikers in the J1 League at the time. Over the years, they developed a successful working relationship and a close friendship. At the same time, Claudinho Sarmento expanded his work to include the individualized coaching of more professional footballers across Brazil, Europe, and Asia. To this day, Cristiano da Silva remains one of the athletes he continues to train on a weekly basis.

In order to work with professional players from different countries at the same time, Claudinho Sarmento has long relied on a hybrid training model that combines in-person coaching with online sessions. Since 2022, he has been using Exercast to provide his athletes with professional, location-independent support. In addition to pro athletes, Sarmento also trains numerous ambitious amateurs via the app – making Exercast an essential part of his daily work as a personal trainer.
